Hey everyone,
I'm having touble translating the following sentence, which is a description of a dancing stripper:
"She marched in place, actually, her waist rolling over a thong two sizes too small, pasties waffling over nipples that pointed outward, walleyed."
This is my attempt:
"Elle marchait sur place, en fait, roulant des hanches au-dessus d’un string deux tailles trop petit, et des petits pâtés de chair ondulaient sur ses mamelons qui pointaient vers l’extérieur, asymétriques."
I 'm not too comfortable with the "pasties waffling" part.... Could anybody check this out for me?

Actually, launching it again, cause I'd really need to know is what pasties waffling over nipples could mean, at least and if I'm searhcing in the right direction..

Yes, pasties are those little circles that are sometimes used by strippers to cover their nipples. The "classic" ones have fringe which the stripper sometimes gets to move in a circle (and everything else moves, too 👁 Smile :)

In this case, it sounds like the stripper is rather fleshy, perhaps fat ("her waist rolling over...", and I think the pasties are moving (waffling) about, sometimes exposing the nipples which would normally be covered. A sloppy stripper!

The image strikes me as sad and humorous at the same time.

Je comprends intuitivement waffling comme venant plutôt de waffle, la gaufre (plus proche d'onduler d'helene-james).

No doubt about "pasties", but the ordinary meaning of "waffling" is "équivocation", and while an Anglophone would understand the metaphoric stretch to a physical undulatory motion, he (or anyway I) would recognize it as a poor, not a clever, attempt at "vivid" language for avoiding "fluttering" or "bouncing".
Well, right. I don't say it's the best sentence ever. But since the author's metaphors are more usually related to very mundane things like food or clothes or make-up, could this be rather related to the waffles you eat?

Yes I think the idea is that she's trying to get the desired circular motion but because of her poor figure (and/or ability), the pasties are "indecisive," as if they can't quite make up their mind to go in circles.

As for "her waist rolling over a thong ..." the idea may be something more like ses hanches excédant les limites d'un string ... ... the "rolling" in question is an overspilling of the thong by the fat of her waist.
I thought waist was more "ventre" than hanches", but I could be wrong!

Well 'waist' is really taille ... it goes all the way around ... hanche seemed like the funnier image here though.

Well, the adjective louche in french means "shady, dubious, seedy" etc, while the verb loucher means to squint.
And strabique would sound a little weird, I think. But asymétrique is not the right word, i agree.
