walkies

Hi,

In this book there is a sentence I don't really understand:

"Following restoration, Albert Bridge was reopened in 2011, not by royalty but with »walkies« for Prince and Albert, two residents of Battersea Dogs’ Home."

Does it mean that it was not opened by someone from the royal family, but with two dogs, called Prince and Albert? Could you give me a synonym for this "walkies"?

Thanks!
It's slang or very colloquial for taking a dog for a walk, sort of babytalk to animals who can't of course be expected to understand proper English.
It's clear that the bridge openers were not members of the royal family.

Yes.

If it's time to take your dog out for a walk, traditionally you call out Walkies! and the dog comes running. There's no exact synonym.
thanks! it's clear now!
