Hi

Context:

In our examination system, it is common for examiners to use both write and write down to start a question. I mean something like this:

Write down a suitable antonym for each underlined word.
Or
Write a suitable antonym for each underlined word.

Would you say that both sound natural to you?

In the context of an exam "write" by itself sounds more natural to me. In less formal contexts I might well use "write down."
