I have a brand new mouse that came with Dell computer. Unfortunately it is opening folders as well as anything else with the single click rather than double click. Yes, I have checked my settings and everything is set to open on double click as well I have turned my click speed all the way down. I have the latest driver as well. Could I just have a defective mouse. And can anyone recommend a very good quality mouse, preferably ambidextrous being theres few left handed options out there? Thanks
Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

Include PSU: make, model, wattage, age, condition (original to build, new, refurbished, used)?

Disk drive(s): make, model, capacity, how full?

List of all connected peripherals.

Wired or wireless network?

Settings: remember to check Accessibility settings.

Do you have another mouse to test on your computer?

Determine if the problem occurs with a different mouse.

Try the new, Dell, mouse on another known working computer.

Objective being to determine if the problem stays with the Dell computer or follows the mouse.
You mean the free mouse Dell gives away every time you buy one of their computers? I have like 5 of them in my office still wrapped in their plastic bag. Certainly not the best quality, but they generally work ok.

Before spending money on another mouse you could try to borrow one from someone else and see if the problem persists. If it doesn't then yeah, the mouse is probably defective and you should buy a new one. But if it still does same then the problem is most likely software related.

About a good ambidextrous mouse recommendation, it depends on your budget and preferences (is it for gaming or work? Do you prefer wireless or wired?). I have personally used the Logitech G903 for several years and it's an awesome mouse (can be used plugged in or wireless), but it's pricy.
