I am cleaning my apartment as we speak. It seems like such a waste to clean for nothing, so I am planning a party. I have a bar in my apartment, so a cocktail party seems like a natural idea. Those things tend to cost a lot of money, however.

Not on "Good Deal" on FoodTV, though. This is a show hosted by Dave Lieberman. Granted, the stuff he is cooking is slightly more expensive and complicated than opening a bag of chips, but still relatively cheap and easy.

I just caught the episode where he hosts a Happy Hour. He makes a few appetizers and a white wine sangria. The sangria looks pretty easy, and cheap-ish. A punch is always cheaper than individual drinks, after all.

Here is the recipe for the white wine sangria:

2 (750-ml) bottles white wine, chilled
1 cup brandy (you can buy a small bottle)
2 navel oranges, sliced
1 lemon, sliced
1 lime, sliced
1/4 cup superfine sugar

Pour the wine and brandy over the fruit and sugar in a large serving bowl. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Stick a ladle in the sangria so people can serve themselves and have a full bucket of ice by the side of the bowl. (Don't let the ice run out.) Serves 12-15 for well under 20 bucks.

Okay, I admit it. I pulled rank and deleted the advertisements. I am not saying your products don't rawk, just that this community needs to get back on track.

I have no idea how this community got so freakin' huge, but since it is, I might as well get on board my own self.

It is now July, Independence Day Weekend, the dog-days of summer. Whatever you call it, it's hot outside. Great time to host a barbecue!

You can go to your local discount store (K-Mart, WalMart, Target, Shopko, etc) and buy a portable grill for under $10. A bag of charcoal, meat and veggies and you are all set. Get a party tub and fill it with ice. Send out invites, and make it a potluck bar. Everyone who comes has to have a beverage to stick in the party tub, whether it is soda, beer, or anything else.

If you have a little more money to spend, you can get a cheap kiddie pool, fill it with water, and make it the pit in a friendly game of tug-of-war. If everyone has enough to drink, maybe you could hook up one of those sprinkler things we had when we were kids. I had one that looked like a clown head. The water sprayed out of multi-colored tubes that were supposed to be his hair. Creepy, huh?

I plan on cooking out every single weekend this summer. We have no yard, but our building does have a courtyard complete with tables and chairs.

Give me all your great summer fun ideas. I want to see at least 25 replies, STAT! Or, I may have to make you read copies of Ladies Home Journal from 1997. Don't make me hurt you. ;-)

Hi! I'm new to the community and I think I'll reveal my little secret.

I'm what most people would define as "goth" or "metalhead", and most of the time I wear black jeans and long sleeve tops that have skulls or dragons on them. Most people think I found them at Hot Topic and paid them a small fortune. Well, think again. They are from Wal-Mart or Zellers (a Canadian store, a bit smaller than Wal-Mart). I found them in the little boys' aisle. Once, my fiance joked that I should try on kids' clothes to see if they fitted, since they were less expensive than adult clothes. Since Hello Kitty, Bratz and Britney are really not my cup of tea, I checked out the boys' section and was surprised to find so many beautiful tops, all under 15$. My favorite are a dark grey one with red skull motifs, and a black one with a Matrix-style creature. Of course, if I weren't petite and flat-chested, I couldn't wear these. But I've seen many interesting goth-ish longsleeves and hoodies in the men section as well, they are just bit more expensive (around 20 bucks).

Another related tip from a pregnant girl at my job. As a punk, she wanted to stay away from ugly and expensive pastel maternity dresses. So she bought several pairs of XL pajama pants for men, and several XL black tops, which looked nice with the plaid pants. If the legs are too long, the bottom may be rolled up or hemmed.

Hi, I'm an artist living in the Los Angeles area. I work full time but I'm still struggling (how messed up is that?)
