High-speed connectivity underpins the adoption and effective use of many technologies such as cloud computing and big data analysis, as well as many services such as video streaming. While 5G and next generation networks promise the fastest speeds, 4G nevertheless offers speeds that can support many activities by people and businesses on the Internet. This indicator reflects how widely 4G connections are available, as measured by the share of the population living within reach of 4G mobile broadband signal. The indicator does not indicate the extent of uptake, however, which is influenced by a range of factors including availability and affordability, among others.
