What is Hytale?

Hytale is a sandbox role-playing game developed by Hypixel Studios, the team best known for creating the popular Hypixel Minecraft server. Development began in 2015, with the project envisioned as a blend of creative freedom and structured adventure. After years of anticipation, development was paused on June 23, 2025, before being revived later that year when Simon, co-founder of Hypixel, announced on November 17, 2025, that he had acquired full ownership of Hytale from Riot Games. The game was officially released as a public demo on January 13, 2026, at 7:00 PM EST, marking its long-awaited debut.

Set in a high fantasy, voxel-based world, Hytale combines elements of sandbox construction, action RPG combat, and procedural world generation. Players explore vast open environments filled with handcrafted adventure scenarios, dynamic landscapes, and diverse biomes. The game supports multiple playstyles, from solo exploration to cooperative multiplayer, allowing players to gather resources, craft equipment, tame animals, grow crops, and build settlements or vehicles. Combat plays a central role, with a wide range of enemies inhabiting different regions, often guarding rare gear and powerful rewards. Each world is designed to feel unique, featuring natural landmarks such as waterfalls, underground caverns, rivers, and hot springs shaped by advanced world generation systems.

Players can explore the world freely, collecting resources, crafting gear, taming creatures, growing crops, and constructing settlements or vehicles. Combat is a core part of the experience, with diverse enemies inhabiting different regions and often protecting rare and powerful loot. Every world feels distinct, featuring natural landmarks like waterfalls, underground caves, rivers, and hot springs shaped by advanced procedural generation.

Beyond standard gameplay, Hytale places a strong focus on creativity and community-driven content. The game offers a wide range of creator tools, including in-game scripting, cinematic and machinima features, and a browser-based model maker for designing and animating characters, items, and environments. Nearly every aspect of the game can be customized, supporting a rich ecosystem of mods, custom content, and both official and player-run servers.

Hytale’s design philosophy draws heavily from Hypixel Studios’ experience creating multiplayer minigames, aiming to deliver both structured adventures and open-ended creativity in a single experience. As a living project, the demo release is positioned as the foundation for future updates, with new features, content, and improvements planned as development continues. With its blend of exploration, storytelling, combat, and creation tools, Hytale seeks to offer a versatile platform for players, creators, and communities alike.

Hytale  FAQs

FAQs were officially answered by the team behind Hytale. The details below summarize the team's replies to these questions. The full FAQs can be found on the official Hytale site.

Will Hytale be on Steam?

No, not initially. The developers want to focus on community-driven early access improvements rather than potentially negative reviews on Steam. Steam might still be considered later, but it’s not currently planned.

Will there be a console version?

No. Early access will be PC only. Console versions are planned for later but require backend work before they can be supported.

Can I play Hytale on Mobile?

There will be no mobile version for Early Access. The team continues to evaluate mobile feasibility and will update players when more is known.

Can I upgrade my edition later?

Yes β€” players who haven’t purchased higher tiers can upgrade by paying only the difference between editions.

How Much is Hytale?

For the Early Access, Hytale can be purchased in one of the following packages:

  • $19.99 - Standard edition
  • $34.99 - Supporter edition
  • $69.99 - Cursebreaker edition

Will there be a pre-purchase bonus?

No. The developers decided not to include a pre-purchase bonus, believing it would be unfair given the current state of the game.

Will Hytale support regional pricing?

They are working with partners to support regional pricing in some countries, but it may not be ready at launch. They’ve temporarily reduced the Standard Edition price to $19.99 USD globally to help accessibility.

Will there be pets and animal taming?

These features are planned for the future but not ready at Early Access launch.

Will the game be available in my local language?

Initially, the game will be available only in English, though localization support is planned with community help.

Can I support my favourite content creator?

Yes. If they participate in the Creator Program, you can use their code at checkout. This supports them directly without affecting your game benefits.
