I made and posted some you-tube videos.
Goto you-tube, and type shyboy40 in the search bar
For now it's just cover songs but soon I make some videos of my original songs.
Hi all,
I am new here, so this will include my intro and first question ;)
I live in Gainesville, Florida and I'm currently working on my Ph. D. in computer engineering at UF (Go Gators!). I've been playing electric guitar on and off for about 15 years, and I only play for personal enjoyment. I prefer Delta Blues.
My only acoustic guitar is a Yamaha electric\acoustic I bought 10 years ago. It's not very easy to play, and really doesn't sound that great. The electronics are useless to me. This brings me to my question:
I played a number of electric guitars before I realized that the only one I really need, for my satisfaction, is a Strat. I assume that there are probably a handful of acoustic guitars that are popular with blues players -- probably a few really, really common choices. I'm interested in finding out which ones those are so that I can listen to guitarists who use them and try to decide what my next guitar should be. I'm not looking for anything fringe or unique here, I'm trying to cop a popular sound and I'm not sure what the different sounds are. I'm learning to fingerpick, if that makes any difference.
Thanks in advance for the help!

My fiance and I are kind of strapped for cash at the moment, so forgive my spamming of guitar-themed LJ communities.
We had to pawn his BC Rich Warlock Body Art Series Electric. Which, to my understanding, is pretty rare. My fiance hadn't seen any other guitar with the paint that this one had, and they only gave us $100 for it.
So I have two questions for you:
1. Would anyone be interested in buying the BC Rich Warlock from my fiance if we buy it back from the pawn shop? He wants to get rid of it, but he doesn't want to let it go for less than he paid.
2. Would anyone be interested in buying the other guitar we wouldn't mind letting go of if we got food in exchange? This guitar is an Art&Lutherie 12-String Acoustic, Wild Cherry Model, Genuine Satin Lacquer Finish, for maximum tone. 95% Canadian Wood. This comes with a hardshell case. The guitar and case are both in mint condition. The guitar even has new strings, and has hardly ever been played.
If anyone would like further information, email me at thexainy at hotmail dot com. Pictures can be attained of both guitars if needed. Make me an offer! Thanks for your eyes. ;D
I'm handing the maintenance of the community over to craziegurl215, as I leave my own livejournal.
My boyfriend has a Fender Parlor Guitar...antique, from the 50s or 60s. Apparently one of the first Fender parlors ever made. I'm going to paint it. I have an idea for what I want to paint, I'll link a sketch I did of my idea later.
So I have four questions:
1. Do you think any interest will generate if/when I try to sell it?
2. How much do you think I could sell it for?
3. Would any of you be interested?
4. Do you think I could get any more people interested if I offered to custom paint it?
Here's the link to my idea:

Hi,
Just joined the community and I have a pretty dumb question. My wife has given me her acoustic guitar. It has no strings. How do I know, just by looking at it, if it needs steel or nylon strings? Apparently it had steel strings but someone told her it's supposed to have nylon strings. Is there is way for me to tell?
Thanks in advance!

I recieved my set of Medium 13-56 Cleartones from Musicians Friend today and promptly fitted them to my Martin.
First impressions may be decieving, especially because I hadn't change my strings in over six months, but I must say the strings have the most amazing tone I've ever heard straight out of the box. From the first A of Hells Bells the sound was stunning. I was a big fan of Elixirs, they were the only brand I'd put on my Martin. However, I must say these strings are superior in tone and feel to Elixirs. If they ever go down in price I'd probably put Cleartones on all of my guitars.
I bought a set of Rosewood bridgepins from musiciansfriend for $10, they certainly look much better. The previous bridge pins were the original from 1972 so they had quite a bit of wear on them. The new bridge pins blend in much better with the bridge as well.
I'm still eventually looking to replace the tuners, nut, and maybe the saddle on this guitar (1972 Harmony dreadnought.)
Martin seems to have it's updated line of guitars online now. I don't keep tabs on all the guitars, but I know at least the guitar I have has increased in price by $200, it may be rarity of wood rather than adding profit though.
Some notable new instruments:
5k Ukelele- Yes, true to it's name it costs $5300. Not sure how I feel about this, as I thought the $300 models were too much to consider purchasing. I heard about this plan when I toured Martin this past summer and here it is:

MC12-41 Richie Samborda- really beautiful 12 string (the first I've seen with a cutaway from Martin I believe), but it costs $8000-

FelixII- crazy mini guitar $600-

Realtree- looks really tacky but when I played it at the factory it played remarkably well for the size and finish. It's really heavy for some reason-

New Eric Clapton signature Belezza Bianca-
I saw the first batch of these being made, not sure I like the finish-

A lot of new high end models, fewer low end. Martin seems to wanted to show off this year. If any other brand has updated it's models online please share!
Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I just put up a Myspace for all the acoustic demos I made recently, and figured a couple pop songs are a pretty good soundclip to showcase my Cort Jumbo. All the recordings are done with a crappy $15 Radio Shack mic, but I've just picked up a proper condensor, and I'll put up some more stuff when I get a chance to record with it.
As far as the Cort goes, I never thought I'd own a Cort guitar. Just never seemed like an option. But it's just a damn
special Cort. I wouldn't dream of playing any other guitar as much as that one, and the Fishman electronics are a definite bonus for live playing.

did anyone watch the CMA's last night?
hey ivegot_itnow,
is this comm. still open?
I haven't been on for a while and haven't seen any recent post here.
prescript- sorry for being a bad maintainer and letting this community go the way of death
After picking up a guitar of the electric variety ('72 Telecaster Deluxe pics are in my lj if you'd like to see) I went into the acoustic room and had some fun.
Noteworthy acoustics: 1927 Gibson- the easiest guitar to play I've ever picked up-$2500
Martin DX12 (the 12 string I was going to buy once but the money went towards the new electric)- amazing I loved it... hopefully I can save up the $550 and buy it sometime
Double headed Ovation Celebrity- This was really fun, a 12 string neck and a 6 string neck. I was playing Journey on it, and though it was hard to reach around the first 12 string neck it was a cool guitar, but I'd never buy it. $850
Fender Stratocoustic- I hadn't played this in a long while and wanted to try it out again. I loved it the electric neck makes playing TOO easy.. it'd be a nice travel guitar.
Whenever I go to any guitar store I look in the acoustic room even though I never have the money to buy something. I love trying out new guitars, and vintage used ones. You just have to make sure there are no sales reps around when you pickup the $6000 acoustics.
