.tr is the ccTLD for Turkey. It is managed by Bilgi Teknolojileri ve İletişim Kurumu (BTK).[1]

Rules and Restrictions[edit | edit source]

Individuals or legal entities may apply to obtain a domain name.

Applicant must warrant that they will not infringe on third-party rights, will not use the domain name unlawfully, and that actions such as cancellation or abandonment will not create any rights in their favor.[2]

The following SLDs are available for registration: ".com.tr", ".net.tr", ".biz.tr", ".info.tr", ".bbs.tr", ".name.tr", ".org.tr", ".web.tr", ".gen.tr", ".av.tr", ".tv.tr", ".dr.tr", ".k12.tr", ".tel.tr", ".bel.tr", ".gov.tr", ".edu.tr", ".pol.tr", ".tsk.tr" and ".kep.tr".[2]

Characters[edit | edit source]

The requirements for a .tr domain name are as follows:

  • it must consist only of letters (a-z), numbers (0-9), and hyphens (-);
  • it must be at least two characters and at most sixty-three characters long;
  • it must not start or end with a hyphen (-);
  • the third and fourth characters cannot both be hyphens (-).[2]
