Malta's identity management solutions

when it comes to e-ID cards, e-Passports, visas, residence documents, acts of civil status and public deeds.

Identity Cards Unit

Issues e-ID cards to Maltese citizens and registers one’s e-ID virtual accounts.

Passport Office

Issues e-Passports to Maltese citizens.

Public Registry

Records and issues certificates of acts of civil status, including birth, marriage, and death.

Searches Unit

Responsible for the registration of enrolment notes (including Wills), hypothec and privilege notes, and the processing of searches on individuals and/or firms vis-a-vis transfer of immovable property (searches can include extracts of contracts, inter vivos, Causa Mortis, Liabilities and Fidi). 

Central Visa Unit

Issues visas according to national policies and the provisions outlined under the Schengen Acquis.

Expatriates Unit

Issues residence documents to EU nationals and residence permits to third-countries nationals. Responsible for the implementation of migration policies.
