In the Lok Sabha elections 2024, Anurag Thakur defeated Congress candidate Satpal Raizada with a margin of 1.82 lakh votes in Hamirpur. Thakur, who won for the fifth consecutive time from the Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency, was dropped from Modi cabinet in Modi 3.0. He previously held the dual c...harge of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Thakur's political journey began in the early 2000s. He has served as a Member of Parliament in the – 14th, 15th, 16th and the 17th Lok Sabha, wherein he won by a record margin from Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh showcasing his popularity and ability to connect with voters. Thakur's rise within the BJP has been notable. He has held several important positions within the party, including the role of President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the BJP. Moreover, Thakur has also served as the Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs in the Modi cabinet. Anurag Thakur has also not been away from controversies as he was accused of making provocative remarks at an election rally where he allegedly raised slogans inciting violence against protesters during the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections. Thakur was seen leading a crowd in chanting "Desh ke gaddaron ko, goli maaro sa***n ko" (Shoot the traitors of the country). His comments were widely criticized for promoting violence and being against the democratic values of peaceful dissent. Anurag had done his early education at Jalandhar in Punjab and had an active career in cricket, which was the reason he was elected for the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) chief. At 25, he was the youngest president of HPCA. He shot into fame after the Congress government enacted a legislation in 2003-04 to remove him from the post of HPCA president. He contested the decision and moved the Supreme Court, eventually winning the case. He will once again be representing Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from his stronghold Hamirpur seat.
