After facing several issues that posed a challenge to its theatrical release, Ilayathalapathy Vijay's much-awaited film Mersal will open in theaters on Wednesday, coinciding with the Deepavali celebrations. The release of the film was hinging on the decision of The Animal Welfare Board of India, which was upset with the makers for allegedly not following the due procedure to use animals in the shoot. According to reports, the AWBI refused to issue the no-objection certificate to Mersal, which had stalled the certification of the film at the censor board. On Monday, following an emergency meeting, the AWBI decided to give the NOC to the film. It would have been a major upset for the fans if the filmmakers were forced to postponed Mersal release date due to this issue.
