Virbhadra Singh (June 23, 1934 - July 8, 2021): A Legacy in Himachal Pradesh Politics Virbhadra Singh, a prominent figure in Indian National Congress, served as Himachal Pradesh's Chief Minister for six terms spanning over two decades. His political career, marked by an enduring presence, included n...ine terms as an MLA and five as a Lok Sabha MP. Elected to the Lok Sabha in 1962, 1967, 1971, 1980 and 2009, he also served as a Union Minister under Indira Gandhi and Manmohan Singh. His long tenure as Chief Minister (1983-1990, 1993-1998, 2003-2007, and 2012-2017) established him as the state's longest-serving CM. Known as Raja Sahib, his political influence extended across multiple decades, shaping the state's political landscape. At the time of his passing, he served as an MLA from the Arki constituency. While his extensive political career brought significant influence, it also saw him embroiled in legal issues. Singh's enduring legacy remains a complex mix of substantial political achievements and legal controversies. His contributions to Himachal Pradesh's development remain a subject of ongoing discussion and debate.
