Congress working president and MLA from Vadgam Jignesh Mevani launched a social media campaign ‘Gujarat Deserves Better’ seeking “better” governance from the ruling party. This was inspired by what newly-appointed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay did on his first day in office: announcing 200 units of free electricity and launching task forces to tackle the drug menace and ensure women’s safety. “If Thalapathy Vijay can do all this, why can’t Gujarat? …As Gujaratis we deserve better?,” Mevani said in a video message, calling upon Gujaratis to join the campaign.

Union minister CR Patil has said he would, henceforth, not be using any pilot and escort vehicles to attend any government or private events until the situation in West Asia eases. Patil’s announcement came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to citizens to cut down on fuel consumption in view of the disruptions in its supply. Patil, who’s the Union minister of Jal Shakti, said his decision would come into effect Monday, when he left for Roorkee from Delhi without any escort or pilot vehicles.
Patil was in Surat, where his family lives, when he made the announcement on Sunday.
