The Punjab state commission for child protection has ordered a school to pay Rs 20 lakh compensation to the family of a child that was crushed to death under one of its buses.
In 2014, four-year-old Aarush Arora, a Kindergarten student in Innocent Hearts School, was crushed to death when he fell off a school bus and went under its rear wheels.
The driver reportedly drove the vehicle rashly and the bus conductor had the bus door open. When the bus hit a speedbreaker, Aarush Arora, who was sitting near the door, fell out. Although the other children in the bus tried to alert the bus driver of the situation, it is said that he could not stop the bus from runnig over Aarush as he was too late on the brakes.
The Chairman of the commission Sukesh Kalia under section 15 (111) of the Child Protection Act 2005 had ordered that School Management will pay the compensation to the father of the deceased child while the commission has written to the Police Commissioner Jalandhar to register a case against the bus contractor.
Chandan Arora, father of the child, said that he got a copy of the order.
“I will move the Punjab and Haryana High court after discussing the matter with my counsel. I want to lodge a criminal case against the school management which was ultimately responsible for the safety of my child,” he said.
Dheeraj Banati, Principal of the school could not be reached even after repeated attempts made to his phone.
