A doctor was found dead in a washroom of the Trauma Centre at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, in Chandigarh Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Dr Yogesh, a junior resident from the department of internal medicine. The hospital authorities informed the doctor’s parents, who are on their way from their hometown, Jalandhar, to Chandigarh.

According to preliminary information, the doctor was found dead inside the washroom during duty hours. Hospital authorities alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation.

The body was later shifted for a post-mortem examination.

The police are probing the matter from all angles, and the circumstances leading to the death are yet to be established.

The incident left his colleagues and staff members in shock, with many gathering outside the Trauma Centre after learning of his death.

The police stated that statements from hospital staff and family members will be recorded as part of the investigation. Further details are awaited as the investigation is ongoing.
