Bhatia had obstructed the officials when they had gone to remove encroachments on a 120-feet road and even threatened them. The Court of Judicial Magistrate Manoj Kumar convicted Bhatia and pronounced the sentence on Friday. Bhatia applied for bail, which was granted.

The case against Bhatia was registered in year 2000 on the complaint of IAS officer Krishan Kumar, then joint commissioner at the Corporation. Bhatia was then a SAD councillor in the SAD-BJP led municipal corporation. The case was registered under Sections 186, 353 and 506 of the IPC at Division Number 5 Police Station.
