Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa has filed a complaint with the Chandigarh Police against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Cabinet ministers Harpal Cheema and Aman Arora, and Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal accusing them of circulating a doctored video of his pertaining to Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia.
In the complaint, filed at the Sector 3 Police Station on July 7, Bajwa has sought registration of an FIR against Kejriwal, Mann, Cheema and Arora and the team of persons acting on their behest in fabricating videos against him.
“I am the Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha and hence, keep raising my voice against the atrocities and illegalities being committed by the AAP government of Punjab. Recently, an FIR was registered against Bikram Singh Majithia by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau. His wife Ganieve Kaur is a Member of the Legislative Assembly. In utter violation of law, the officials of Vigilance Bureau entered her house and even went up to her bedroom. Such a conduct against a lady was uncalled for and also contrary to law. On 25/06/2025, I posted a video on my official X handle at 03:13 PM wherein I criticized the action of Vigilance Bureau officials against a lady MLA and also highlighted a similar misconduct by them against MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira. This video is of 3 minutes and 48 seconds,” said Bajwa in his complaint.
He alleged that Kejriwal, Mann, Cheema, Arora and their respective team of persons “acting as their henchmen” edited his video and deleted the name of Ganieve Kaur and also her reference as a lady MLA.
“This doctored video was edited in such a manner to show as if I had rendered support to Bikram Singh Majithia. All the leaders of Aam Aadmi Party started posting these doctored videos on their official X handles and circulating the same on social media,” said Bajwa. He also submitted clips of his original and the alleged doctored video.
He further added that the edited video was circulated so as to harm his political image and also that of the Congress party. “This was done to ensure that I was defamed, maligned, accused of supporting persons facing prosecution, supporting violators of law,” he added, urging the police to register an FIR and conduct an investigation.
“Democracy provides for freedom of speech but definitely does not permit fabrication and doctoring of videos to harm the reputation of a person and misleading the public. Moreover, this entire team of persons whom I have repeatedly mentioned have misused the official machinery of the Punjab government in order to tarnish my public image. They have committed several offences punishable under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and the Information Technology Act,” he added.
