A three-and-a-half-year-old boy who fell into a borewell in Chak Samana village near Hoshiarpur on Friday evening was rescued safely after an intense nine-hour operation carried out by the NDRF, SDRF, Punjab Police, district administration, and local residents.
The child, identified as Gurkaran Singh, son of Harinder and Asha, who work as daily wage laborers, was pulled out of the borewell at around 12:40 AM and immediately shifted to a hospital for medical examination.
Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain and SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik personally supervised the rescue operation from the beginning and praised the determination and coordination of all teams involved.
According to officials, the incident occurred around 4 PM when Gurkaran accidentally fell into an open borewell near his house that was being dug recently. Rescue teams quickly reached the spot after receiving information about the incident.
To save the child, rescue personnel dug a parallel pit more than 30 feet deep next to the borewell. Through a narrow shaft created beside the borewell, rescuers managed to reach the child after several hours of continuous efforts. Officials said the child had become trapped at a depth of nearly 30 feet.

Mother told the Media person that he and his elder brother work playing when he slipped into the pit, and when he was sleeping, he raised an alarm, pleaded for help, and said, ‘Catch him,’ but we could not reach him, and he slipped deeply.
The administration also lowered a camera and oxygen pipe into the borewell to monitor the child’s movement and ensure oxygen supply during the operation. Heavy machinery was brought to the site to speed up the rescue process.
Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain said that the NDRF team, comprising more than 40 members, used their expertise to successfully complete the difficult operation safely.
Punjab Jails Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh and Hoshiarpur Member of Parliament Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal, who remained present at the site throughout the operation, appreciated the relentless efforts of all rescue teams.
Dr. Ravjot Singh stated that the district administration, with the support of NDRF teams and local villagers, made all necessary arrangements that ultimately helped save the child’s life. MP Dr. Chabbewal described the rescue as a highly sensitive operation and praised the teams for their tireless work that led to its success after hours of struggle.
SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik also thanked the rescue teams, saying their dedication and courage played a crucial role in saving Gurkaran’s life.
During the rescue operation, several social, religious, and community organizations also extended support and encouraged the teams in various ways.
