⇱ Illegal slaughtering: Ludhiana civic body teams destroy 180 kg meat, issue challans to 18 shopkeepers | Ludhiana News - The Indian Express

Continuing the drive against illegal slaughtering, Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) conducted inspections in areas falling under Zone A, B and D of MC and issued challans against 18 shopkeepers on Wednesday.

Cracking whip on the shopkeepers for getting involved in illegal activity, the civic body teams destroyed around 180 kg of meat, which was being sold in unhygienic conditions by the shopkeepers. A minimum challan of Rs 1000 was issued against the shopkeepers.

The inspections were conducted in Shivpuri area, Chandigarh road, 33 feet road, Chander Nagar and adjoining areas.
Corporation Sanitation Officer (CSO) Ashwani Sahota stated that working on the directions of MC Commissioner Dr Shena Aggarwal, regular drives are being organised in the city to stop illegal slaughtering in the city.

Earlier on March 13 too, the MC team had also issued challans against 22 shopkeepers involved in illegal slaughtering and destroyed around 50 kg meat in different parts of the city. The drives will continue in the coming days too.

Sahota stated that the shopkeepers involved in illegal slaughtering have been selling unhygienic meat to the residents. The shopkeepers have been directed to get the meat slaughtered at the modern slaughterhouse established by MC in Haibowal dairy complex. The meat is properly checked by veterinary doctors and certified at the modern facility which ensures that it is healthy for consumption.

MC Commissioner Dr Shena Aggarwal also appealed to the residents to ask for certified meat from the shopkeepers, as this will not only put a stop to illegal slaughtering but will also ensure that the residents consume healthy meat which is certified at the slaughterhouse facility.
