Siachen has been a thorn in Pakistan’s flesh, because it is here that the Indian army is tactically entrenched on commanding and strategic heights overlooking Pakistani defences on the LoC. Otherwise, right from Kargil to Ladakh, Pakistani troops are at an advantage, occupying the commanding heights, from where the Pak army brings accurate artillery fire on Indian army road convoys carrying essential defence stores/supplies to the Indian troops deployed along the route. Any withdrawal of Indian troops from Siachen shall be suicidal. We have been surrendering military gains to Pakistan in the past to reach an accord. But India has always had a bitter experience. Let us not repeat past mistakes.
