NEW DELHI, JULY 20: Former India captain Bishen Singh Bedi described on Thursday as absolutely stupid’ the proposed Code of Conduct drawn up by the cricket board for its captains in the wake of the match-fixing and betting scandals.
Asked what the provocation for such a code could be, bedinever known to mince his words, said quot;this is a clear cut case of trying to put up a holier than thou image before the Sports ministryquot;.
He was apparently referring to the recent inter-actionsbetween Sports Minister sukhdev Singh dhindsa and the board officials with the former demanding that bcci submit to him its plan of action including a code of conduct for the players.
quot;But, who are they trying to impress and what exactly arethey trying to convey?quot; he asked.
A select committee of the board is expected to finalisethe code for captains, players, umpires and officials at a meeting in mumbai on July 24 before it is submitted to the ministry on August one.
