July 8: Central Railway Mumbai Division CRMD carried on from where the had left on Saturday, by defeating Chembur English today by a convincing 2-0 margin, in the quarter-finals of the on-going JC Maitra Cup, organised by the Mumbai Division Football Association at the St Xavier’s Ground, Parel.
Satish Kumar of the railway team scored the first goal in just the 11th minute, helped by a splendid pass by Ravi Gajdi catching the Chembur English goalkeeper totally unawares
The winners’ got their second breakthrough in the 26th minute of the first-half with the help of a corner. Narendra Karanjekar’s low shot went into the melee of players. Harish Devadigan, near the goal took advantage of the confusion and nudged the ball into the Chembur English goal.
The second-half was lackluster with no goals scored.
Napolean Perreira of Chembur English made a desperate attempt in the 59th minute but was saved by Antony D’Souza much to the dismay of Chembur English. The Division II league match between Miners and DMC was also played today at the same venue, which the latter took 1-0.
Satish Shirke of DMC scored the lone goal of the match in the 6th minute with an spectacular 30-yard strike past a bewildered goalkeeper.
