CHANDIGARH, Aug 30: Ramanpreet Pahwa and Bhavneet Kaur clinched the titles in the boys and girls sections respectively in the eighth Chandigarh State Sub-junior carrom championship which concluded at the St Stephen’s School-45 today. Ramanpreet outclassed Aita Ram 25-4, 25-4 while Bhavneet subdued Pallavi Piplani 25-7, to take home the crown.

Earlier, Ramanpreet paired with Baninder Singh to win the doubles crown also. The duo defeated Hasneet and Taranpreet Pahwa 24-4, 25-1.

The girls double’s title went to Shakshi Bawa and Poonam Jain who coordinated well to prevail over Pallavi and Eveleen 25-7.

The top eight players in the boys and girls group:
Boys: Singles: Ramanpreet Pahwa, Aita Ram, Baninder Singh, Gurinder Singh, Rajat, Taranpreet, Deepak Bishnoi and Lovneet Singh.

Girls: Singles: Bhavneet Kaur, Pallavi Piplani, Shakshi Bawa, Jasleen Kaur, Shikha Jain, Poonam Jain, Birinder and Geetu.

Roller hockey team
Four Chandigarh skaters — Abhishek, Parminder, Jaswinder Singh and Anjum — are amongst the ten-member Indian team which will be participating in the 33rd World Roller Hockey championship to be held at Macau from September 5 to 12.

The other members of the team are: Rajesh Anand, Prikishat Minhas Jammu and Kashmir, Bhupinder Singh, Rajesh Kumar, Swaranjeet and Simaranjeet Singh Punjab.

Harpreet Singh Kirti of Chandigarh would accompany the team as a coach.

In the 30th World Roller Hockey meet, six skaters from the City represented the Indian team.
