The Uttaranchal government has constituted a committee to probe the death of Bhunesh Bisht, a student leader who immolated himself on the campus of MB College in Haldwani.

Uttaranchal Information and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Indira Hridayesh said the committee will submit its report within a month.

According to Hridayesh, Bhunesh had planned a symbolic immolation and had decided to use kerosene mixed with water. But the bottle found after the incident contained raw petrol. ‘‘This shows somebody wanted him to get fully burnt and politicise his death.” Incidentally, Bhunesh’s father has said his son acted of his own will.
