IND vs AUS 3rd Test Day 4, Updates: KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with half-centuries to help India to get 252/9 at the end of Day 4 in the third of the five-match Test series at Gabba in Brisbane on Tuesday.
Chasing the lead of 445 runs India has now crossed the 246 run mark which means Australia cannot enforce follow-on and have to bat again which opens up the door of draw for the visitors.
To add insult to injury pacer Josh Hazlewood is out of the Test match with an injury. India have won the first Test in Perth and Australia won in Adelaide the series is 1-1.

Raining India wickets at Gabba
On yet another forgettable day for the Indians, wickets continued to bucket down alongwith persistent Brisbane rains. Within the 17-odd Indian batters overs that were wedged between a stop-start day that witnessed eight rain breaks, India's top-order crashed like a deck of cards with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant falling prey to spotless planning and execution from the Aussie pacers. India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: IND 252/9 vs AUS at stumps in Brisbane
Well well, there we go India got through the passage of play and has crossed the illusinory mark. They don't have to bat again which means Australia have to come out to the middle bat a bit of time and have to calculate how many overs are enough for them to give themselves a chance. Additionally, there is no Hazlewood all signs are looking positive for India. This day might just go a long way in the series. It will be deflating to Australia and after the thumping India took in Adelaide and the way they started here this is an extraordinary fight back. That's it from us for today do join us tomorrow.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: 10 minutes and four runs away
We are 10 minutes away and the duo here has added 28 runs. Two things which have been told by this partnership is if batters are willing to defend and apply themselves runs can be churned out and the old ball is way more easier to face than the new ball. From an Australian perspective, it is the worst possible thing that could have happened. India is now just three runs away from breaching that mark of 245 which will make Australia bat again that means another hour to two hours sucked out of the game and this effort will take India long way in this series.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Akash and Bumrah frustrate
Both Akash and Bumrah have survived quite a bit here which is frustrating from an Australian perspective. Now Cummins has turned to Nathan Lyon which is what both Bumrah and Akash were hoping for. One interesting thing from Cummins is because of the rain breaks again and again he did not have to resort to his fourth bowlers much and that is where it will be interesting to see if they want India to bat again at all. yes, there is enough break for the MCG Test but they have put in quite an effort here and another 20 overs each will be quite a workload in this game.

NRMA Insurance Test Series
Australia v India - GABBA
Revised session times,
Play resumes - 04:45pm
Stumps - 05:50 pm
Play can extend a further 30 minutes to ensure today’s minimum required overs are bowled.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Will Bumrah go after Cummins
Two tail-enders are in the middle and it will be interesting to see how India approaches this. Since Bumrah has more experience of the lot he might go for the shots and Akash Deep at the other end just might look to survive. However, hitting against Pat Cummins with the form he is in is a bit too much to ask but just standing there and trying to defend is not going to do India any good either. And if India comes out to bat again today and bat Jaiswal and Rahul will not like it because of the cloud cover and rhythm of the new and the time of the day.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Jadeja departs
Jadeja has changed gears here and it is important that he mixes aggression with caution instead of just going after the bowling. He is looking to target Nathan Lyon which is the right thing to do. With Pat Cummins bowling like he is it is next to impossible to attack him. The role of Jasprit Bumrah at this point is just about surviving for now. It is getting quite tense out here. What a Test match this is turning out to be. If India does manage to get unscathed out of Brisbane it will be a massive confidence booster for them going forward in MCG. As we update Jadeja departs.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Siraj goes
We have resumed for another time and it is dark and only time will tell how long will we stay in the middle. And as soon as we started Mitchell Starc picked up Siraj. It was a pitched ball and as expected the number nine threw his hands at it and the ball took the outside edge to the keeper. Jadeja is running out of partners here and India is still quite a bit away from where they have to be to make Australia bat yet again. Jasprit Bumrah has walked into the middle. While there is hope from time to time Australia has found to crawl back with a wicket.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Update on Josh Hazlewood
Josh Hazlewood has sustained a right sided calf strain which will prevent him from playing any further part in the NRMA Insurance Test match against India in Brisbane.
He sustained the injury during the warmup this morning and after bowling one over was unable to continue.
He is likely to miss the remainder of the Test series. A squad replacement will be made in due course.
ENDS
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Pure reflex
A key moment in a Test match between Australia and India at the Gabba. Steve Smith, an Australian fielder, took a remarkable catch to dismiss KL Rahul. This catch was significant because Smith had dropped Rahul earlier in the day when he was on 33 runs. Rahul went on to score 84 before Smith made amends with the stunning catch. Former Australian captain Allan Border praised Smith's reflexes in taking the catch. (Read more)
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Tea break
Rain has stopped play here yet again and we have taken early Tea. It might be frustrating for the Indian players but another break for the Australian seamers and they will come back fresh.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Some headless running
It is a little strange decision to promote Siraj above Bumrah and Akash Deep and since Siraj has walked in there is a clear confusion among Jadeja and Siraj on when to run and when not to. Twice in an over Siraj just survived a close run out. It just seems like India's plan on how to go about the current situation is a little unclear. Jadeja cannot just go after the bowling and risk himself getting out as still India are trailing behind in this game and needs to cross the magic number of 245 to make Australia bat again. We again and again emphasis on that number as it will let Australia bat again and takes time out of the game and will let India draw the Test.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Nitish Reddy departs
Pat Cummins comes and picks a wicket. Nitish Reddy tried to fend off the ball with an angled bat and the ball just seamed a little bit and took the inside edge onto the stumps. Good breakthrough for Australians. He did look like he was going into a bit of a shell here did Nitish and this is what happens when a batter completely curtails the attacking instinct. It was not a wicket-taking ball but just the mindset of the batter costed him the wicket. Mohammed Siraj has walked into the middle and India still needs about 50 runs to avoid follow which is the most important number.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: 50-run partnership
A 50-run partnership between Nitish and Jadeja. Once again all valuable runs for India will keep eating away at that time and will make sure Australia at arm's length. Nitish too once came in has looked excellent here. He defended the bat solidly and played each ball on its merit. Jadeja on the other hand continued on his merry way. There is nothing extravagant or out-of-the-box but good old-fashioned cricket of seeing the overs through. Australia was the clear favourite last evening but several things that went against them will ensure India's survival in this Test which might be a game-changer going forward.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Not enough deterioration
One thing rain has done is have slowed done the rate at which this pitch has deteriorated today. If the wicket was exposed to natural light there would have been indentations formed and the ball by now would have misbehaved bounce-wise. However, the constant starting and stopping and greasy outfield have increasingly made conditions not alter much and made it easier for batting. Both Nitish Reddy and Jadeja who have solid defence are playing with a lot of comfort. Not to be a broken record from our end it just emphasis the point if top order could have applied themselves India would have been in a better position.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: We resume
We resume play here in Gabba both Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon resume for Australia. That rain break has taken significant time out of the game. However, one advantage Australia does have is they can use their prime bowlers for longer. For any new joiners, Josh Hazlewood has walked off for scans this morning and we are not sure if he will come back to the game again. So Starc and Cummins have to do the bulk of the work. India is still trailing by 261 runs however, to avoid following all they need is another 60 runs. If the visitors manage to make Australia bat again the game is as good as draw.

India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Uncertainity over Hazlewood
Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood suffered a calf injury during the fourth day of the third Test match against India at the Gabba. He bowled only one over before being taken off the field and sent for scans. Cricket Australia confirmed the calf issue and stated that updates would be provided later. Hazlewood had previously taken the crucial wicket of Virat Kohli on the third day. This injury raises concerns, especially considering Hazlewood had recently recovered from a side injury that caused him to miss the Adelaide Test, although Australia maintained he was fit for the Brisbane match.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Allan Border in awe of Steve Smith’s screamer, says ‘it’s just pure reflex’
A key moment in a Test match between Australia and India at the Gabba. Steve Smith, an Australian fielder, took a remarkable catch to dismiss KL Rahul. India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Are there similarities between Sachin Tendulkar’s 2011 tour of Australia and Virat Kohli’s current struggles in 2024?
A dramatic batting collapse by the Indian cricket team against Australia. Despite Australia employing a simple bowling tactic of bowling wide outside off stump with a packed slip cordon, India lost three wickets quickly, reaching 22 for 3 by lunch. The passage questions the reasons for this collapse, suggesting possible factors like over-aggression (intent), overconfidence (ego), and lack of focus (mental laxness). It specifically highlights Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill as experienced players who should have avoided chasing the wide deliveries. A comment from former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar about the role of the batting coach adds a broader context, suggesting potential deeper issues within the Indian batting unit, though the author emphasizes that basic errors like chasing wide balls shouldn't require coaching. In essence, the passage analyzes how a simple bowling plan led to a surprising and disappointing batting failure by India. (Read more from Sriram Veera)

India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Jadeja gets 50
Jadeja has got to his 50 what a lovely innings it has been from the batter. He kept his cool and used all his experience in the innings to get there. India is increasingly getting into a comfortable position where they definitely can pull a draw out of this game. As per Australia, they have given the ball to Mitchell Starc after the break and the challenging thing from Pat Cummins's perspective is how will he rotate his bowlers without Hazlewood. Interesting session this will be make or break for either side. Need another partnership with India here to be safe.

India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Pujara on KL
"KL has shown that if you apply yourself, if you bat well, it's a good pitch where you can score runs. It's not a very difficult pitch where you can't survive or where you can't bat.
"Whenever he's defending or leaving the ball, he's in a very good position.
"He knows where his off stump is. And even while defending, he allows the ball to come and hit his bat. He's not going for the ball.
"And if you look at the other dismissals, where most of the batters have gone towards the ball. And let's look at his leave. He's quite, he's very well balanced.
"He's covering his off stump. And he's looking to play the ball. But once he knows that it's outside the line, then he's keeping his bat close to his body.
"And some balls did nip back in. And he kept his bat there and it edged and didn't carry. Happened in the previous Tests as well.
"He's allowing the ball to hit his bat. And he's defending with the softer hands, which is a big, big positive there."

India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Is it age or technique? Will there be a revival or terminal decline?
Of late, Rohit Sharma the batsman has had the demeanour of a mumbler in a loud bazaar. Tentative, hesitant, unsure. He seems to be prodding at something, something alive and dangerous that could explode on him.
At his best, Rohit the cricketer came across as a guy who took what he was doing really seriously, but never took himself seriously. He had that wonderful nonchalance, yet intensity to set and dictate the tempo for his team. (Read more from Sriram Veera)
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Lunch break
And there is the lunch break. India has lost only two wickets in that session which should make it India's session however, given the game situation it is better to call it a shared one. Do stay with us we will be right back after the lunch break and resume.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Blooming partnership
Another nice partnership is blooming for India here between Nitish and Jadeja and all of these runs count and are of premium at the moment for the visitors. Also as we have mentioned before we do not know what is the situation of Hazlewood is and assuming he won't return for this Test match India's chance to get out of that jail have increased. Pat Cummins apart from the rain break has bowled almost through the session and he cannot do it throughout the day at some point in the day he has to resort to the likes of Mitchell Marsh and Marnus Labuschange who will be easier to score off.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Jadeja and Rahul show the way
Irrespective of how many runs India manages to get it has been poor a batting effort. While Rahul for the third time in the series has shown how to bat in these conditions, the other batters have shown not to bat yesterday. Even someone like Jadeja who is just playing his first knock in the series has shown solid application and made the bowlers ball to him instead of chasing balls way outside the off-stump. While it may be arguable that Rohit and Pant have got good balls the way Rahul and Jadeja just played within the stumps is an indication of how to avoid those sorts of dismissals going forward.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Rahul departs
Well, KL Rahul has gone it was a nothing shot from the batter but excellent bowling from Lyon he did get that extra bit of bounce as Rahul tried to push the ball through off-side with an angled bat and Steven Smith who dropped Rahul earlier dived to his right and took a brilliant catch. The partnership that looked like will saved India is now broken and Australia is now in the Indian lower order. Nitish Reddy has walked into the middle and India needs him to play one of his cameos which he is expected to do. One such cameo might just be enough for India to save this game.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Good session for India
We are coming closer to lunch break and it has been a fabulous session for India after a wicket of Rohit Sharma. Both Rahul and Jadeja have batted well. Rahul, especially after getting dropped off that first ball is played a lovely hand here. He is mixing caution with aggression and is looking good for a three-digit mark here. Jadeja is averaging 41 in Australia and so far is playing his part with some sumptuous shots as well. But the job is not done yet for India they need to get to 245 to make Australia bat again draw this game and keep the series 1-1 going into MCG.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Pulling it back
The lengths have changed here from Australia even this morning it was evident that they were trying to pull back their length and bowl a bit on the shorter side and now it is even more important to do so as there is not much of a moment with this ball. Also with that little rain every time the ball goes into the outfield it will make it a tad bit difficult for the bowlers to grip the seam hence making the accuracy of the bowlers suffer also rain will further delay the deterioration of the pitch. Ideally, by today we must have had indentations and cracks opening up but nothing of that sort can be seen.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Lessons for top order
This partnership is an indication of what batters can achieve if they apply themselves. All the top-order batters who have come played lose shots and lost their wickets. Any of them like KLRahul if they would have applied themselves they would have their chance to capitalise once that ball is a tad bit older. Also, Ravindra Jadeja in his innings so far has shown how to drive on this surface. Anything outside the off-stump he let it go. He made the bowlers come to him and played some lovely straight drives and a couple of sumptuous sweeps against Nathan Lyon to upset his rhythm.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Partnership brewing
The ball is about 35 overs old and this is around the time when Travis Head and Steven Smith took the game away from India. Though India is not as commanding a position as Australia they still have a couple of batters in the middle who are technically sound and can play long innings. The nature of this ground is when runs start coming they flow quickly. However, India cannot afford to look too far ahead in this game they have to take bit by bit and eat away at that lead and first make sure that Australia does come to bat again. That will be a massive moral victory for the side.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: We are back
Like yesterday it was just another short break and we are already in the middle. One thing that these short breaks do to Australia is keep their main bowlers fresh and make them bowl longer spells. Also, there seems to be a spring in the step of the Indian batters and looks like they are going to play a bit of positive cricket which is the right strategy as Australia is a bowler short. Nathan Lyon too needs to get in plenty of overs today and India might look to attack him too which will force Cummins to bring himself and Starc back into the attack again and again.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Update on Hazlewood
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Rain stops play
Rain has started to fall here yet again. It is a little dark out there. There are a few thunderstorms expected for the day we have to see how much time they will take away from this game. Do stay with us for further updates.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Hazlewood injured
Josh Hazlewood has walked back here. It is the opening India might be looking to draw this game. Australia are a bowler short unless Hazlewood gets recovered miraculously and comes out to bowl. It seems like he is carrying a niggle and he is done for the Test match. This will be a massive challenge for Cummins, especially in the absence of Cameron Green he has to make do with Mitchell Marsh who himself has been a reluctant bowler in recent times. In addition to Marsh now a lot also depends on Nathan Lyon who did not have much to do in the series so far but has to do it in this game.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Water break
We have reached the first water break of the day here and it has been Australia's passage of play. Rohit Sharma's wicket is a huge boost for the hosts in that 50 minutes. We have seen Hazlewood come into the attack and for some reason his pace is down and it seems like he is carrying a niggle which might give India an advantage going into the game. If Hazlewood cannot bowl here they have to turn to Mitchell Marsh who can bowl a 3-4 over spell but to bowl around 20 overs his body just might break. Interesting turn of event here this morning.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Solid batting
Once again it is KL Rahul who has looked most established and comfortable in this order. Apart from one dropped chance of his, he looked a million dollars. He left the deliveries that he should have and played shots when the opportunity represented itself. The onus is on him here to keep what he is doing and make sure India gets to 245 so they have to avoid batting again. With all the weather around it is very unlikely that Australia themselves want to bat here. Ravindra Jadeja has walked into the middle for India we are having a first look at him with the bat in this tour.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Rohit departs
This is a masterclass of bowling by Pat Cummins. He pushed one up to Rohit and his foot went nowhere and he poked at one on the fourth stump to the keeper. Once again there was no feet moment from the skipper he threw his hands at the ball and paid the price. Cummins is bowling brilliantly here. He is pitching one up pitching one short and mostly keeping it in a good length area and making the batters guess. If he is going to keep with that sort of rhythm it will be a mighty difficult challenge for batters to deal with. As we update Rahul scores 50.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Shorter lenghts
Australia has been a touch short this morning which is a little strange. They hit the right lengths last evening and picked up four wickets but today they have pulled it a little back and are waiting for the indentations on the pitch to come into the game and do that extra bit. However, there might be no harm in trying to pitch the oddball and make the batters drive as the ball is just 23 overs old and the surface is still fresh. Also because of the pullback in length Indian batters are batting with a little bit more comfort and defending confidently as well.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Only draw possible
It will be an interesting session for India. They definitely cannot win this game but they can draw. But for that, they need a partnership and see out a couple of sessions today morning and plenty of it depends on this pairing and how they go about their innings here. Especially KL Rahul who had his catch dropped will now feel further reinvigorated to make it a big knock. On the other hand for Rohit, it is an opportunity to get back into form. There is pressure but not as much as in other games because only one result is possible in this game so both batters can get in zone and bat accordingly.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: KL Rahul gets lucky
KL Rahul edged one straight to Steven Smith in that opening over however, he dropped the catch. It is a wake-up call for Rahul he got away with one here. He had a water-tight technique yesterday but today morning that was a loose shot poking at one which could have left well alone and this is where India struggled yesterday playing balls that they could have left alone. Mitchell Starc takes the ball from the other end with Cummins from another. One thing that will happen on this surface early on is there will be a bit of moisture and the ball will seam around for the first hour or so.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: Let's go
The sun is shining here in Gabba. We had plenty of rain overnight hence we might have a full day of action which can go either of two days which is India making a comeback and pushing for a draw or side at the verge of losing the Test by the end of the match.
India vs Australia LIVE Cricket Score: In gloomy Brisbane, it rains (Indian) wickets
Jasprit Bumrah, after a stellar bowling performance, was left frustrated as the Indian top order collapsed in their chase of a challenging target. Despite his best efforts, the team's batting failure undermined his hard work. The passage highlights the contrast between Bumrah's resilience and the fragility of the batting lineup, emphasizing the importance of all-round performance in Test cricket. After Australia's tail wagged with the bat for a little longer to reach 445 all out early on Monday, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood quickly had India in trouble with a devastating opening spell at the Gabba.
