Parts of India will experience scattered to widespread, light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over the next five days, a forecast released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated Tuesday.

The wet weather conditions will be accompanied by thundersquall, hailstorm, and duststorm in various parts of the country.

Although the IMD predicted no significant change in maximum temperatures over the next two days, they might fall gradually by 3-5 degrees Celsius over the next 4-5 days in parts of West India. Hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail over Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha between May 8 and 11.

Weather in Delhi

Delhi is likely to continue experiencing rain spell, thunderstorms, along with lightning, and strong surface winds today. The city recorded a minimum temperature of 22.7 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, with the maximum temperatures settling around 34 degrees Celsius.

The air quality was recorded in the ‘moderate’ category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) standing at 123 at 9 am, PTI report stated.

West and Northwest India

Under the influence of a Western disturbance as a cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan adjoining Punjab and northwest Rajasthan in lower to upper tropospheric levels, parts of West and Northwest India are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall, along with thundersquall and hailstorm today, the IMD stated.

Fairly widespread light to moderate levels of rainfall is likely to occur over Jammu-Kashmir-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh from Tuesday till the end of this week. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at 40-60 kmph are also likely in these parts of the Northwest India.

The weather in Gujarat, Goa, Konkan, Marathwada, and Madhya Maharashtra will follow suit, with isolated to scattered rainfall, along with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds, reaching approximately 50 kmph over the next four days.

Isolated hailstorms are likely over Uttarakhand and Madhya Maharashtra on Tuesday, and over Marathwada on Wednesday.

A thundersquall, with speed reaching between 50-60 kmph, is also very likely over Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat for the next two days, and in Uttarakhand today.

The Gujarat region will also experience very heavy rainfall today, while isolated heavy rainfall is likely in Uttarakhand and Rajasthan today and tomorrow.

Parts of West and East Rajasthan may also experience duststorms today, the forecast stated.

Northeast India

Under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over Northeast Assam in lower tropospheric levels, rainy weather will prevail over parts of Northeast India, specifically, in Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh over the next 7 days.

According to the IMD, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is likely in these parts of the country, along with thunderstorms and lightning.

Parts of the three states may witness isolated heavy rainfall, which will last till May 8.

East and Central India

Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Sikkim will continue to witness scattered to widespread light to moderate rainfall till tomorrow, whereas similar weather conditions will prevail over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh till Friday.

The rainfall in these parts of East and Central India will be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, between 40-60 kmph, as per the forecast.

Isolated places over Nicobar Islands may witness heavy rainfall over the next 3 days, the IMD stated.

Isolated hailstorm activity is also likely over East Madhya Pradesh over the next two days. This will be accompanied by a thundersquall, with speed reaching between 50-60 kmph, at isolated places, as well as in West Madhya Pradesh.

South India

Under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over south Tamil Nadu and neighbourhood, similar weather conditions will prevail over parts of Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal over the next 7 days.

Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely in some parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Kerala and Mahe over the next 3 days.

Lastly, squally winds, with speed reaching between 45-55 kmph, are likely to prevail along and off Oman coast, over various parts of Northwest Arabian Sea, as well as along and off Gujarat coasts.
