Punjab Congress candidate Sunil Jakhar has won the Gurdaspur by-election with huge margin of 1,93,219 votes defeating Bhartiya Janta Party candidate Sawarn Singh Salaria.

Hailing the Gurdaspur by-poll win, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh said that it was a “total rejection of the anti-people policies” of the BJP and its ally SAD. He added that it highlights the "political annihilation" of the BJP.(PTI)

Gurdaspur recorded a voter turnout of 56 per cent on Wednesday. In the 2014 general elections, however, the turnout was recorded at 70.03 per cent. Voting took place in a peaceful manner, authorities said. (PTI)
