Podcast Player Block

With Jetpack’s Podcast Player block, show your visitors a listing of recent episodes from a podcast and play them on your website.

Add the Podcast Player block

The Podcast Player block is available on all Jetpack-connected sites. It is a part of the Jetpack Blocks suite and is activated by default. See our Jetpack Blocks article to learn about the available blocks and how to activate them.

Jetpack Blocks require the Block Editor (also referred to as the Gutenberg editor). If you’ve installed the Classic Editor plugin, you have a few options:

  • Deactivate the Classic Editor: Go to Plugins → Installed Plugins in your WP Admin and deactivate the Classic Editor plugin.
  • Enable both editors: If you prefer flexibility, navigate to Settings → Writing in your WP Admin (not the menu under Jetpack settings). Set Allow users to switch editors to Yes. You will only see these options if you have the Classic Editor plugin installed and active.

Some custom themes or plugins may prevent you from using the Block Editor. In that case, please contact the support team for the plugin or theme for further assistance.

You can add the Podcast Player block by searching and/or selecting it from the Jetpack section of the block selector. You can recognize it by its musical note green icon. Alternatively, you can type /podcast on a new line and press Enter. See Jetpack Blocks for detailed instructions on adding blocks.

Set up the Podcast Player block

Once you add the block to your content, you will see a field where you can enter a podcast’s RSS feed URL.

Make sure to add a valid podcast RSS feed URL. For example, https://distributed.blog/category/podcast/feed/ is a valid feed, while https://distributed.blog/ is not. Once the feed is added, click on the Embed button to validate it.

Block Toolbar

Every block has a toolbar of block-specific controls that allow you to customize the block. The Podcast Player block has the following toolbar options:

  • Change Alignment: change the alignment of the block on the page.
  • Replace: change the podcast RSS feed URL.

Block Settings

The editor sidebar offers options to customize every block. If you do not see the sidebar, click the Settings button (its icon looks like a menu) next to the Publish button.

Podcast Settings

The options settings to customize your Podcast Player block are the following:

  • Number of items: choose how many episodes to display. The latest episode always shows first.
  • Episode: embed a specific podcast episode. Selecting a particular episode will only show that single episode.
  • Show Cover Art: if the cover art is available, you can toggle the display of the podcast’s cover art.
  • Show Episode Title: you can toggle the title display.
  • Show Episode Description: you can toggle the description for the currently selected episode.

Color Settings

You can customize the layout and the look of the Podcast Player to match your site’s design.

  • Primary Color: you can control the color used for primary elements in the block display, such as the selected episode title, the player controls, and the played color in the player progress bar.
  • Secondary Color: you can choose the color used for secondary elements in the block display, such as the selected episode description, unselected episodes, and the not yet played portion of the player progress bar.
  • Background Color: you can select the color used for the block’s background color.

Advanced

In the advanced tab, you can add CSS classes to your block, use custom CSS rules, and style the block.

Privacy Information

The Podcast Player block is activated by default. It cannot be deactivated; the Podcast Player block is always available in the Block Selector.
