This is a community for Jewish vegetarians and vegans, or anyone else who's interested. Come here to discuss vegan versions of Jewish cuisine and issues concerning Judaism and veganism/vegetarianism. You don't have to be vegan or Jewish to join, as long as you don't try to convert anyone to chicken soup!
Due to trouble in the past, I have to screen members for this community. I do this by skimming through the prospective member's journal and user info, so I need to be able to view enough information on these to make a decision. If you friends-lock your entire journal, disable non-friends commenting and have no information in your user info, or if you have not made any posts yet, I cannot make a decision. If that is the case, I suggest that you friends-list me for a short period of time; otherwise I will not be able to accept your application. I do not have the time to trawl through all the communities you may have listed to see what kind of posts you have made!
A few requests:
Whatever your religious, ethical or dietary standpoint, please respect other's views.
Please place long posts, pictures, recipes and so forth, behind lj cuts.
If you want to introduce yourself (and please do), DON'T start a new post, go to "Memories" and put it in the "Introduction" thread.
Put recipes in new posts, and they will be stored under "Memories".
Please keep the recipes vegan, although you are welcome to post a non-vegan recipe with a request for help converting it to vegan.
Vegans do not eat or use any animal products i.e. meat, poultry, fish, dairy, eggs, bee products. Honey is NOT vegan. Sugar is sometimes not vegan. In America it is frequently refined with bone char.
It would be appreciated if you could explain unusual products or those commonly known by their brand names for the benefit of those in other countries, e.g. "Marmite (yeast extract)". I'll try to get a glossary up in the "Memories" section at some point.
Do not cite someone else's recipe without acknowledging the source. If you want to copy any of the recipes on this community, please ask the permission of the author.
