MS in Molecular Pathology and Experimental Medicine

About

The Master of Science in Molecular Pathology and Experimental Medicine invites you to explore the forefront of biomedical discovery, disease mechanisms, and translational medicine. This two-year program provides advanced training and hands-on research to prepare the next generation of scientists and innovators in healthcare. You will gain a deep understanding of human disease, with a strong emphasis on experimental learning and mentorship from USC Pathology faculty within the Keck School of Medicine and Children’s Hospital.

Program Summary

Through a comprehensive, interdisciplinary curriculum within the Pathology Department, you will study cancer biology, stem cells and tissue regeneration, infectious disease, immunity and inflammation, disease therapeutics and immunotherapies, molecular and digital diagnostics, and pathological diagnostic criteria. Coursework also introduces emerging technologies such as digital pathology, spatial genomics, personalized medicine, and modern experimental and analytical techniques that are actively investigated by our faculty. The program’s investigation-driven model allows you to tailor research experiences through mentored laboratory projects or non-lab pathways including computational pathology, bioinformatics, literature and clinical data analysis, and quality improvement, reflecting the department’s ongoing research and expertise.

Beyond coursework and research milestones including presentations, conferences, and opportunities for publishable work, you will join a vibrant scholarly community, attending seminars, lectures, and research forums that enrich your learning and expand your network. Graduates are prepared for careers in biotechnology, pharmaceutical and biomedical industries, healthcare, government, education, and science communication, or for advanced training in PhD, MD, or MD/PhD programs, equipped to translate discovery into meaningful impact.
