Indexing all ingested logs can be costly. Datadog Log Management decouples log ingestion and log indexing with Logging without Limits* to help you manage costs. Datadog can ingest and process all logs from all of your log sources. Then, you can decide the following:

• Which logs to store long-term using Log Forwarding
• Which logs to index for day-to-day analytics and monitoring using Indexes
• Which logs to keep in Flex Tier for occasional ad-hoc querying
• Which logs to discard using Exclusion Filters

You can also manage retention periods and daily quotas for indexed and flex logs for finer-grained control over costs. In this course, you'll gain hands-on experience managing and monitoring indexed logs for an application using Log Indexes, Exclusion Filters, Logs Monitors, and the Log Management - Estimated Usage dashboard. You'll also learn about when to consider using Flex Logs instead of Standard Indexing for certain use cases.
