Contacting Microsoft Support With an Update Related Question (KB5071959)

Gene Spangrude 25 Reputation points

I have been having difficulties installing Update KB5071959 to a 64 Bit Windows 10 Machine......

I'd like to send the CBS.LOG to someone who could give me advice on how to accomplish this Update....

How to I send this log to the appropriate Microsoft Staff??

Its too large for my EMAIL system so would need to be able to place it on a Server somehow....

Thanks in advance.....

The 'AI Response' given back said to send it to 'Microsoft Support,' but this is what I am trying to find out; how 'exactly' to contact 'Microsoft Support.....'

    Thanks in advance.....

Looks like the KB5066188 update is partially installed.

Please run:

wusa /uninstall /KB:5066188

Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

I get an error something like that 'Update Is Essential and Can Not Be Un-installed.... I am running the Command in an 'Elevated Administrator Command Window....'

Ok. Let me source some files related to KB5066188 from another PC.

OTOH, if you don't wish to troubleshoot, use the MCT and do a repair installation. That should resolve the issue.

    Reposting the instructions:

1] Download Windows 10 Media Creation Tool (MCT) from this link: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=2265055

2] Run MCT and accept the license agreement.

3] Click "Upgrade this PC now". This starts the repair installation.

Your apps, settings, and files will be kept by default during a repair install/in-place upgrade.

    Hi Gene,

Ok. Let me know how the in-place upgrade went. 👍

Ramesh S- I applied the In Place Upgrade using the .MSU file; this process took about four (4) hours to complete.....

Then I rebooted and applied the Microsoft Updates available which included the KB5071959 Update; this process took about one (1) hour to complete.....

I will let you know how things go from here; but for now it looks like the current issues are resolved for me.......

    THANKS for guidance provided me.....!!!!!

      Hi Gene,

Thanks. What's the OS build number of your PC? Please run winver.exe to find that out.

Please open an admin Command Prompt window and run these commands:

      reg load HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\Windows\System32\Config\COMPONENTS

      reg save HKLM\COMPONENTS "%userprofile%\desktop\COMPONENTS" /y

      reg save "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing" "%userprofile%\desktop\CBS.dat" /y

Add the files, COMPONENTS and CBS.dat, located on your desktop, to a zip file. Upload the zip file to OneDrive or www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Ramesh S- I have gotten several 'Error Codes' but the 'most common one' has been: Error Code 0x80073701

Also have gotten this Error Code occasionally: 0x80070643

And this Error Code occasionally: 0x800f0835

I am going to 'Retry the Installation' today; and then send the resulting CBS.LOG File to the OneDrive.....

      Hi Gene,

Ok. Please upload a zipped copy of the CBS folder if the update fails again. CBS.log is usually not enough.
