Dev Mode Activation Fails — Redirects to Partner Center, No Workspace Access
I signed the NDA and installed the Dev Mode Activation app on my Xbox. When I try to activate Dev Mode, I get “We can’t authorize your console.” The activation link https://aka.ms/activatexbox redirects to Partner Center or shows a 404. I can’t create a workspace because my account isn’t linked to Entra ID. Support links are also broken. Please help manually authorize my console or link my account to the Xbox Developer Program.

Hi @Renee Hetrick ,
It looks like the current Xbox Dev Mode activation process has changed, and the public links (
https://aka.ms/activatexboxand/xboxconfig/devices/index) now redirect to the Partner Center home instead of the Manage Xbox Devices page. This usually happens when your Microsoft account isn’t fully enrolled in the Xbox Developer Program or isn’t linked to a valid Partner Center workspace. Here’s what you can do:
- Use the correct app — on your console, install the green “Xbox Dev Mode” app from the Microsoft Store. The older black “Dev Mode Activation” app no longer works.
- Register or re-enroll your developer account — on a PC (preferably using Microsoft Edge), go to https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-store/register/ and sign up with the same Microsoft account used on your Xbox. Choose Individual when prompted.
- Access Partner Center directly — after registration, go to https://partner.microsoft.com/dashboard.
- Open Account Settings → My access, and check if you see Dev devices or Manage Xbox devices.
- If those options don’t appear, the workspace hasn’t been provisioned yet — it may take some time or require manual linking.
- If you still can’t authorize the console, contact support through these channels:
- Create a new support request.
- Get more help | Xbox Support. Mention that Dev Mode activation fails, the activation links redirect to the dashboard, and your account isn’t linked to a workspace.
This issue has reappeared a few times recently and usually resolves once the Partner Center account is properly enrolled or re-linked. After that, the Dev Mode app should authorize your console normally.

Hi there — just checking in as I haven’t heard back on this thread for a while. Did the steps for re-enrolling your developer account and using the correct Xbox Dev Mode app help resolve the activation issue?
If it worked out, feel free to mark the answer as accepted so others can benefit from it too. If you’re still running into problems with Partner Center or console authorization, I’m happy to help troubleshoot further!
