• Windows 11, versions 24H2 and 25H2 (related to KB5066835)
• Windows 10, version 22H2 (related to KB5066791)

This is a one-time prompt for the BitLocker recovery key. Once the correct key is entered, the device should restart and function normally without further prompts. It is important to note that this issue does not compromise data security.

Instead of a full rollback of the October 2025 security updates, we recommend the following:

1. Utilize the Known Issue Rollback (KIR): Microsoft has activated a Known Issue Rollback (KIR) to address this problem.This feature allows for a targeted fix without the need to uninstall the entire security patch, ensuring your systems remain protected. For enterprise environments, you will need to contact Microsoft Support for Business to deploy the KIR across your organization.
2. Ensure Access to Recovery Keys: Proactively ensure that your end-users have access to their BitLocker recovery keys. This will minimize disruption if they encounter the recovery prompt. Keys are often stored in the user's Microsoft account, Azure AD, or your organization's Active Directory.
3. Monitor the Windows Release Health Dashboard: For the latest updates and information on this issue, we advise monitoring the official Windows Release Health dashboard.
