Purge an Incorrect key vault

Kaughlin Caver 20 Reputation points Microsoft Employee

We currently have a keyvault stuck in a soft deleted state that needs to be purged. Could you please purge the keyvault?. This resource was created for a test deployment and was deployed incorrectly. There are no values in it needed. Our team needs to free up the name space to deploy the new correct version.

Hello Kaughlin Caver

As discussed offline, as confirmed by the Microsoft Engineering team, the service enforces a mandatory retention term (7–90 days) if purge protection is activated on the Key Vault. In this time frame: It is not possible to permanently remove the Key Vault (purged). This holds true even if you work as a Key Vault Purge Operator.

By design it does not support force purging. The vault will be automatically purged once the retention time is over. Use an alternative Key Vault name.

As a workaround use a different Key Vault name to proceed with your deployment immediately.

The current behavior is expected due to purge protection safeguards, and immediate purge or namespace reuse is not possible until the retention period expires.
