How to remove virus from my pc?

Omer Abdul Sattar 20 Reputation points

Hello,

I recently installed a program from a website. The website clearly stated not to download any files from external pages that might open during the installation process, but unfortunately I did not notice that warning at the time.

After installing the software, I went to sleep. Later, a friend contacted me on Instagram and asked about a story that had been uploaded from my account. I had not uploaded any story myself, which made me suspect that my computer had been infected with malware. As soon as I realized this, I immediately disconnected my PC from the internet by turning off Wi-Fi.

Since then, I have taken the following steps:

  • Scanned my entire Users folder using Windows Security.
  • Performed a Quick Scan.
  • Disconnected the computer from the network.

However, I was unable to complete a Full Scan because Windows Security estimated it would take approximately 35 hours. I have also noticed that my PC has been running slower than usual and occasionally lags.

I would appreciate assistance in determining whether my system is infected and guidance on completely removing any malware that may be present. Please let me know what additional information, logs, or diagnostic files you require.

Thank you for your help.

    Hello, Omer Abdul Sattar.

    Try following these steps:

    1. Launch the Task Manager. In the "Auto-upload" section, disable all the autorun elements.
    2. Start the Task Scheduler. In the Scheduler Library section, disable all tasks.
    3. Run the configuration applet (msconfig command via Win+R). Open the Services tab and disable all non-Microsoft services.
    4. Run the Offline Defender check:

The computer will restart and a check will be performed. If there are viruses, there will be a warning on the screen. If there are no threats, the PC will boot as usual, without notifications.

      Hello, Omer Abdul Sattar.

ShellHost.exe — this is a Windows system process that is responsible for managing graphical interface elements.

Please tell us the name of the program that caused the PC to malfunction after installation. Also, use screenshots to show the contents of these registry keys.:

      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
      • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
      • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

Judging by the screenshots, there is nothing like a virus yet. But there is malware that can slow down a PC and even cause crashes. Post here a screenshot of the Control Panel window (classic)-Programs and components with a list of all installed programs.
