Change Microsoft Password Manager PIN

Konnie 0 Reputation points

I can not remember what the PIN for my Microsoft Password Manager is, and when I try to reset it, the instructions that it gives is not accurate. The "Change Microsoft Password Manager PIN" button does not exist. I have changed my system PIN, but that PIN is different than the one used for the password manager apparently. 👁 pin reset

    Welcome Konnie,

I understand how frustrating it can be when you cannot remember your Microsoft Password Manager PIN and the option to change or reset it does not appear where expected in Edge.

Before proceeding, I'd like to clarify a couple of points:

    • Are you using Microsoft Edge signed in with a personal Microsoft account or a work/school account?
    • Do you see your saved passwords normally under Edge settings > Passwords, or is access blocked by the PIN prompt?

In the meantime, you can try these steps below to troubleshoot the issue:

Option 1: Verify Edge sync and account

    • Open Edge settings > Profiles
    • Ensure you are signed in and sync is turned on for Passwords

Option 2: Clear Edge credentials cache

    • Open Windows Settings
    • Go to Accounts > Sign-in options
    • Remove Windows Hello PIN
    • Restart the device
    • Set up the Windows Hello PIN again

    Option 3: Reset Edge settings

    • Open Edge settings
    • Go to Reset settings
    • Select Restore settings to their default values

    Option 4: Update Edge

    • Go to Edge settings > About
    • Install any pending updates and restart the browser

I hope the steps above help you deal with your issue.

      Hello Konnie,

I just wanted to check if my previous response addressed your question correctly. If there is anything I may have misunderstood, I would truly appreciate it if you could provide a bit more detail to help me better understand your needs.

No it was not helpful. I was forced to delete all of my passkeys in order for the "Change Microsoft Password Manager PIN" button to show up in my edge settings.

      Hello Konnie,

      Please try the steps:

Test behavior on another device (if available)

      • Sign into Edge with the same account
      • Check whether the PIN prompt and options behave correctly
