Invite email not sent for Education / Labs

AH 0 Reputation points

I have some Azure credits on a university-based account, and I want my students to be able to use them. I created a Lab under "Education | Labs" and set a spending limit, then sent the invite code & URL to a student. They entered the code and then I approved them joining the lab under Pending Approvals. But then I got an error notification: "Failed to send subscription invites for below users: [student email]". Naturally the student never received an email. Under the "Users" tab the student is listed, but with status "Pending acceptance". The "Resent Invite" button is greyed out.

I've tried re-adding the student, re-creating the lab, etc. to no avail. Instructions I found online were inapplicable — I don't have access to organization-wide Entra ID management or other tools that are suggested for dealing with this issue. Would love some help!

    Hello @AH

Thank you for reaching out to the Q&A forum.

Issues with sending invitations in Azure Lab Services often occur due to permission conflicts or domain restrictions. I recommend trying the following solutions:

Remove the affected student from the Users list and send them the lab's registration link, which can be found in the lab settings.

    • If possible, switch to the "Direct Assignment"mode. This allows students to access the lab immediately after signing in, without requiring email invitation confirmation.

If these steps do not resolve the issue and the error persists, I recommend creating a support ticket through the Help + Support section of the Education portal. The support team has access to tools that can manually verify or update a user's invitation status on the server side.

    I hope this helps.
