Stuck in last phases of account creation

Richard Mastronardi 0 Reputation points

I am in the process of restoring Windows Media Player as WMPL. I didi not have an account for Microsoft to sign in so I began the process to create one. I reached the last phase of completion and was asked to submit "my current password one more time. But I don't have a previous password for Microsoft because I didn't have an account. Now I'm stuck in place. Suggestion please.

    Hi Richard Mastronardi,

Based on your description, it sounds like Windows is asking for the password of your current local Windows account, not a previous Microsoft account password. When you switch from a local account to a Microsoft account, Windows may request the existing Windows account password to verify that you are the owner of the device.

To help narrow this down further, could you confirm:

    • Are you creating the Microsoft account directly on the Microsoft website, or from Windows Settings > Accounts?
    • When you start Windows, do you sign in with a password, a PIN, or do you sign in automatically without entering anything?
    • What is the exact wording of the message asking for the password?

If you have never set a password for your local Windows account, please try the following:

    1. Leave the password field blank and select “Next” or press Enter.
    2. If that does not work, enter the password you currently use to sign in to Windows (if you use one).
    3. If you sign in with a PIN, try selecting “Sign-in options” and switch to password sign-in first.
