Add web apps to Intune for Education

Applies to:

  • iOS
  • Windows

Add and deploy web apps throughout your school in Intune for Education. Students access web apps in a browser, such as Microsoft Edge or Safari. They gain access through a link that you send to their devices. On a Windows device, links appear in the Start menu. On an iOS device, links appear as web clips on the main app screen.

Important

On October 14, 2025, Windows 10 reached end of support and no longer receives quality and feature updates. Windows 10 is an allowed version in Intune. Devices running this version can still enroll in Intune and use eligible features, but functionality isn't guaranteed and can vary.

Add a web app

  1. Sign in to Intune for Education and go to Apps.

  2. Select New app > New web app.

  3. Enter the following details:

    • URL: The URL of the app that you want to assign.
    • App name: The display name for the app. On Windows devices, the name appears in the Start menu. On iOS devices, it appears as the web clip label on the home screen.
  4. Under Icon, upload a PNG or JPG file to use as the app's icon.

  5. For Description, describe the purpose of the app. The description appears in Company Portal for apps marked as available. For all other apps, the description is only visible to admins in Intune for Education.

  6. Select Save. After you save the app, you can view it in your inventory, under the web app type.

Select the app to open its details and assignments. From here, you can also edit the app.

Next steps

After adding a web app, assign it to a group to deploy it to student and teacher devices. For more information, see Assign apps to install them on school devices.
