Kill me Deadly by Garrett Sanders us a super fun send up of old noir film. If you know the tropes or just have seen a few film noirs it’s worth a watch. A movie that trusts it’s audience to find the humor of the story without always pausing to say “look how clever we are!”

The cast is sharp, I’m shocked that this movie is not more well known considering the talent on display. A true indie film that is clearly made with passion. The sets, costumes and ludicrous plot don’t feel too out of place with most noir films but the atmosphere and over the top moments really solidify its craft.

It does take a moment to really get going but once you’re in you’re in for a treat. A true hidden gem I hope more people take a chance on.

After being casted as Charlie Nickels himself, rehearsing for 3 months straight, and just recently wrapping up our performances, this film is nothing short of a fucking train wreck. Written by the writer of the play itself, it genuinely surprises me how bad everything translates from a stage play to a motion picture. Call be Bugsy Siegel and shoot me with a sniper’s rifle and put my out of my misery. What a horrible time for a cast after party. Acting, cinematography, editing, all bad. The only saving graces are two performances and a pretty alright soundtrack. Kill me, deadly, for the love of god.

Overlooked gem - that actually works really well. Joe Mantegna is in it - Kirsten Vangsness - plays on all the Noir tropes and makes you laugh. Try it out - I will be surprised if you don't like it.

Watch with an Old Fashioned in your hand.

A lovingly made homage/spoof of 1940s noir films.  Beautiful b&w photography, a really fun script and some great performances. Really fun to see with an audience at Flixx Fest.

I was in a recent show for college where we all did Kill Me Deadly (which honestly might be my favorite show ever now). I played Louie and Fists in the show. We all had so much fun. Somewhere along the line one of the actors found out that there was in fact a movie adaptation. We decided to watch it for shits and giggles at the cast party.

There’s some good shots here and there and the writing obviously is great but really the combination of quite frankly bad performances (for the most part), some slight miscasting and honestly really bad direction and pretty obvious green screen makes it a little…too fake. As I was laughing along with the…

As a voracious fan of film noir, I'm always really torn by attempts to lightly mock the genre while also paying homage. I'm not sure I've ever really seen something that does it well, and after this one, that hasn't really changed.

Like, the glorified cameo presence of Paul F. Tompkins in the cast gave me great hope that maybe this would be actually funny, but alas: he played a Spanish guy whose whole schtick is having an accent but also being very well-spoken. Okay?

Maybe this works better on the stage, where it started; as it stands, it just feels like a standard noir, in noir style, with the only thing differentiating it being some over-the-top performances and the…
