This collection aims to gather a broad range of articles covering many aspects of the evolutionary history of cetaceans, including taxonomic diversity, anatomy, phylogeny, paleobiology, and ecological adaptations related both to the transition from land to water and the diverse specializations attained by modern whales and dolphins during the past 30 million years. This collection includes investigations from around the world and provides a biogeographic context for reconstructing cetacean evolutionary biology.

  • Mariana Viglino, PhD

    Biologist Dr. Mariana Viglino graduated from the Universidad de Buenos Aires and is currently a researcher at IPGP-CONICET, in Puerto Madryn, Patagonia (Argentina). She's part of an interdisciplinary lab called "Grupo de Paleontología y Paleoambientes del Neógeno Marino Patagónico". The goal of her research is to characterize the macroevolutionary history of toothed whales (Cetacea, Odontoceti) with emphasis on their origin and first radiation (end of the Paleogene-Neogene) using paleobiological, morphological disparity, and phylogenetic diversity analyses.
