The MEGA story
MEGA is born
After three months of coding by Mathias Ortmann and Bram van der Kolk, MEGA is released with immediate global publicity. One million users register in the first three days.
One billion files uploaded
In just over 12 months, MEGA users have stored more than one billion files in their secure accounts.
MEGA Chat beta released
MEGA expands its product offerings with MEGA Chat, our secure, end-to-end encrypted communications platform with easy file sharing built in.
MEGA Chat: secure text, voice and video chat
MEGA Chat provides secure communications with end-to-end encryption for web browsers and mobile apps (Android and iOS).
MEGA Command Line released
MEGA releases a powerful scriptable interactive command shell for advanced users and sysadmins.
100 million registered MEGA users
Rapid business growth sees MEGA reach 100 million registered users, who together have uploaded more than 40 billion files.
MEGA for Business released
We release our high-performance enterprise storage solution, MEGA for Business, with multi-user support and large-capacity storage options.
MEGA reaches 200 million users
October 2020 saw MEGA hit the 200 million registered users milestone.
Hypergrowth
MEGA continues to grow rapidly and now employs over 200 staff worldwide.
Evolution of MEGA ecosystem
MEGA releases its VPN and password manager software. Plus, we made huge improvements to our existing product suite.
Launches Transfer.it and MEGA S4
MEGA launches Transfer.it for effortless file transfers (with no file size limit) and MEGA S4, a fast, flexible and secure S3-compatible storage.
Agentic-AI ready
MEGA now supports AI agents via MEGA CMD, so users can run their choice of LLM on their account, when and if they want to, with zero-knowledge encryption fully preserved.
