I was very excited. Then I realized that it's the same night as the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus concert. Damn. Not only do I have to go to the HM/MC show for work, but I promised my kid sister. Have fun without me- lemme know how it is!

31st-Aug-2007 05:52 pm - Q101 interview audio
i worked yesterday but was able to tune in a radio to listen to the Q101 interview (Chicago/101.1), that's not the good news....

the good news is that my brother recorded it off the radio onto a casette tape! we put it on the computer and edited it a bit for your downloading pleasure! there are 2 versions. i recommend the short one (without the songs) because the tape was old and made the songs slow and warbly, lol.
the quailty is ok, not professional, but not bad!!

enjoy!

30th-Aug-2007 09:22 pm - Q101 Follow Up
It's official - Q101 announced Hanson as the mystery band and interviewed the guys on-air. I missed the bulk of the interview, but what I did hear was pretty interesting.

-Q101 had their music director and (at least) four on-air staff members in studio for the interview. Hanson called in from their tour.
-The station repeatedly vocalized support for the band, their music, and their ability to "fit in" with Q101 as a station and a format
-The DJs (Electra, Ryan Manno, Sherman and Tingle) all had very positive things to say about 'The Walk'
-Hanson swore near the end of the interview. I don't know the context exactly, but the station had to dump it. The DJs got a good laugh out of it ("I can't believe we had to dump Hanson!")

Overall, it was cool to hear on a relatively major and influential station. It'll be REALLY interesting to see what impact this has. Will the song get national play? Will their fanbase grow in Chicago? Will this simply allow Hanson to exist with little-or-no "Mmmbop" stigma? Dunno. But it's cool, at the least, that there's this opportunity for growth and change and it's all positive. I'm excited to see what happens, and I'm excited to see this acceptance.

29th-Aug-2007 10:08 pm - Q101 "Mystery Band" - Announcement
Just a reminder ... FridayTHURSDAY (08/30) at 5:30pm CST, Q101 (www.q101.com) will be announcing who the mystery band that they've been playing the last few weeks is. As I said in the last post, it's Hanson - Great Divide.

They'll have the band on for an interview. If you're not in Chicago, you can listen online at www.q101.com ... somebody record that because I'll be driving out of town. IT'S TODAY! LISTEN!

And make sure you call and request (312-591-8300) or text (99161).

*** EDIT ***

The interview / announcement is TODAY (Thursday) at 5:30. I can't read a calendar.
13th-Aug-2007 03:32 pm - Hanson on the Radio?!
Being a relatively new Hanson fan, I wasn't around and relishing every spin they got during the height of their popularity. But yesterday my heart skipped a beat, when I heard "The Great Divide" on Chicago's alternative station.

They're playing the song, but not saying who it is or what the song is called. They're billing it as "The Mystery Band" because they "want people to listen to the song with an open mind" (ie. they don't want people going, "Oh, that Mmmbop band? Screw them. *click*") They're planning to reveal who the "Mystery Band" is on August 30th. Time will tell how the public responds, what this does to sales, if the station does anything else with the band, etc. But it's pretty cool in the meantime!

So far, since Sunday afternoon, the song has gotten 5 spins. That's 30 spins a week - pretty good for a new song from an unknown band.

On their website, on the "Songs we just played" section, they list the song as '"FIND OUT WHO THIS IS ON 8/30" - MYSTERY BAND'

Call and request "the mystery band" ... 312-591-8300 or send a text to 99161.

Hello! I'm desperately trying to find travel buddies/roommates for this big whoop-de-do in Tulsa. I'll be leaving St. Paul, MN at the buttcrack of dawn on 5/4, and driving back on 5/6. If anyone's interested in going with or having me pick you up somewhere on the way down, or rooming together, let me know! My AIM is making it rock.

Hanson is listed as an interest, so I thought some might be interested in thisCollapse )

Finally, all money raised that does not go directly into creating the ad (be it extra money, or if we don't make enough for the ad) will be donated to the Prenatal HIV Research Unit (PHRU) at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, South Africa. There will also be a note of this in the ad, as well as contact and donation information if Billboard readers also want to contribute.
