Baltic States Prepare Joint Evacuation Plan in Case of War

Ten countries in Northern and Baltic Europe have agreed to prepare plans for cross-border evacuation of the population in case of war or a large-scale crisis.

This was reported by the Swedish Ministry of Defense.

The agreement was signed by Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, and Germany.

The document provides for the possibility of temporarily moving civilians across state borders in the event of an emergency.

This primarily concerns countries in the Baltic Sea region and Scandinavia.

The Swedish Ministry of Defense noted that the initiative is based on the experience of the war in Ukraine.

According to the Swedish side, the transfer of the civilian population allows the state to continue its defense while reducing risks to people.

Evacuation plans will include the creation of transport corridors for the mass movement of people.

The countries will also agree on mechanisms for the placement and registration of evacuees and the provision of assistance to vulnerable groups.

At the same time, European countries are already conducting evacuation operations due to the escalating situation in the Middle East.

In particular, Germany, France, and Spain are organizing flights to return their citizens from the region.

Recently, the Estonian Foreign Ministry stated that NATO would strike Russia in the event of an attack on the Baltic states.
