The figures show the ore distribution by layer in Java Edition 1.18.2. The plotted data was acquired by scanning a volume of 515212 chunks.
Figure A shows the absolute number of ore blocks found in the scanned volume. Blocks of raw ore (copper and iron) found in ore veins were counted as 9 blocks of the respective ore.
Figure B shows the same data as Figure A on a logarithmic scale. This makes the bands in which the different ores spawn and the occurrence of emerald ore more apparent.
Figure C shows the relative fraction of ore per layer. Blocks of air, water, and "decorative" blocks such as stairs, cauldrons, leaves, etc. have been excluded from the calculation. The fraction of ore blocks per layer can be interpreted as the probability to acquire a certain ore when removing (mining) a solid block in the respective layer.
Since solid blocks occur less frequent in higher layers above sea level the statistics in those layers is less robust.
