I like to correct information.
This is where I put theories about why some versions have weird oddities.
I think the blue skybox might have been a leftover from classic/indev, as it cuts off at ~1k blocks in each direction, which is about the same as when the sky cuts of in indev. Beyond this, the only sky is fog, meaning it is just one dull blue-gray color instead of a gradient. I believe the solution to this problem was notch making it always centered around the player, thus the cloud height moving in the next version.
