Professor Illager is a supposedly in-universe character who concerns himself with the lore of Minecraft and its spin-off games. Being a member of the Illagers, his design is a hybrid of those of the Vindicator and Pillager mobs, and he lives in a Woodland Mansion. He drops a book and two emeralds upon death.

Professor Illager can be found on the YouTube site, Minecraft.Wiki, and Planet Minecraft sites at random intervals. Like most mobs, Professor Illager cannot spawn on transparent blocks and bedrock.

It is also possible to find Professor Illager in Woodland Mansions and (rarely) in The Inn alongside two Illusioners.⸺According to his persona's canon, this is whence he was born and raised.

After dying, Professor Illager will drop a book and two emeralds, as well as one of the following:

• Compressed Poisonous Potato Block
• Java Edition Password Reset Code
• Jigsaw

Note that he only drops these when killed by a player or tamed wolf.

Professor Illager will wander around his spawn area until finding either a player, Enderman, Illager, or Villager to talk to; once talking to one of these mobs he will not stop until one party dies or is otherwise hurt. While talking other mobs will begin to try pathfinding away from him, but he will persue.

When talking to a player, he will explain the lore of Minecraft before beginning to elaborate on his thoughts regarding Mojang and typography (including the Americanism to not use the letter U). After this, he has a 50% chance to talk about the Latin language and a 50% chance to start criticising Minecraft Legends.

When he first began to produce content for Planet Minecraft (as he did, prior to joining YouTube) he would reveal he was motivated largely by the desire to provide decent content to players for free, especially becꜷse he had, at the time, just left the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft, and grown to deeply resent its microtransactive nature.

As Professor Illager would continue making content his philosophy would change, slightly, and he'd become less concerned with the actual making of content and, rather, the making of friends and evočation of feelings in people.

His content was mainly skins until he started posting single retextures of mobs and, eventually, blogs. His first lore blog would be published in early 2023 and would be followed by two more before the 'series' would briefly end and return later, completely reëvaluated with a new style and, excluding the very first blog of the series, concerning the Heroes of the canon lore, a consistent design philosophy regarding thumbnails.

He would write pretty consistently during this time and often cite other popular theorists from YouTube, though he didn't always agree with them. Professor Illager has since declared his older blog theories to be almost entirely outdated and flawed, but still posts on YouTube with updated version (and wholly original) ideas.

Professor Illager has had two Discord servers; the former of these has been deleted, now, but was previously left largely abandoned for nearly two years after its fashioning. The latter is still running and was created on the twenty-ninth of March in 2025, and is much more active. The former server was focused more on his Planet Minecraft map-making content, while his newer one regards lore as-well-as, as he puts it, 'all things Minecraftian'.

Professor Illager's video content mostly pertains to Minecraft's lore, though he also discusses other topics on-occasion. Professor Illager sometimes puts jokes into his videos, though they otherwise have a mostly serious 'fꜷx-educational' quality, which reflects his online persona.

These videos will often feature his character animated, moving around and talking as he gives his lectures. This character often wears a consistent skin, though this is not always true, as seen in his New Year's video, or in certain isolated renders, whence he may have an unique skin from the usual one. The New Year's video was his first to feature it, and all subsequent videos (except his iceberg video) have included such animations⸺some more than others.
