- On the wiki
Hi, I'm Harristic, I was briefly known as HMPilatus before renaming my account in early 2023, and people often call me Harri which I like. I love this wiki, as you might've guessed. I try my best to be active and to improve the wiki best I can, admittedly this has resulted in an immense backlog of projects and ideas for the wiki that I don't know if I could ever complete, which ends up demotivating me sometimes. But most of the time wiki editing is a joy, and completing a project is always worth it. I've put a ton of work into the Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Legends namespaces in particular, I have a weird obsession with Minecraft's spin offs so no doubt I'd sink immense time into building the next spin off's namespace. I like to think I'm a skilled editor, but I am undoubtably a novice in many regards, mostly anything technical like CSS and any non-basic templates. I've only been here a year and a half after all.
I edit because...it's fun. I like contributing to this community resource, I like having a positive impact on something. I get tired of editing sometimes, and it can be hard finding the motivation, but I think that's completely normal. Slumps of motivation are like a form of taking a break, and breaks are necessary. Editing is largely a thankless job (and it certainly feels like an unpaid job at times), but that's never bothered me honestly. Seeing people use the wiki, seeing youtubers acknowledge it after the fork, that makes me very happy.
- Twitter
The most important thing about me in relation to the wiki is probably that I run the Minecraft Wiki EN account on Twitter. I view the Twitter account as a way to integrate the wiki into the larger Minecraft community (on Twitter, at least) which I think is a really important thing to do. Back in early 2023 there was some consensus with the few editors I frequently spoke to that the wiki was completely disconnected from the larger Minecraft community, but I don't think that's the case nowadays. My approach to making tweets on the account has changed gradually, I like making the account's tone casual but I've become more careful with what I tweet at the same time. Running the account is a big responsibility, but I enjoy it a lot. Funnily enough, I have access to the account because one time in early 2023 I just pinged an admin and asked if I could run it, and, they said yes. The wiki had almost zero social media presence before I did this, so I don't know if letting a semi-random editor who joined a couple months ago operate the wiki's social media presence was the most sound decision at the time but it worked out I think.
- Forking
I participated very actively in the discussions from May to September 2023 that culminated in this wiki forking. I nervously messaged NIWA coordinator SuperHamster about forking the wiki, and if any NIWA hosts wanted to host us. This made people like Archaic (host of Bulbagarden) and Prod (host of ABXY) join the wiki Discord, skip forward four months and we forked. In these four months of discussions I learnt an obscene amount about wikis and was able to be a part of something that really felt magical. I got to interact with a lot of incredibly important people in the wiki sphere. It was rocky at times no doubt, the on-wiki discussions and votes were very messy, it wasn't clean. And it stressed me out a lot often, because I felt an immense amount of responsibility for organising things. I do not regret the fork, it has been wonderful.
- In real life
I live in England, I'll shortly be starting a course at university for games design and development, and that's about all I've got to say about my personal life. You're not missing out on anything interesting, don't worry.
